Depression is a complex emotion that can cause mild to severe degrees of difficulty in a person’s life. Often it involves a lingering sadness or “a case of the blahs,” where things just feel pointless. Other symptoms might include:
- Feeling down or blue most of the time
- Hopelessness
- Emptiness
- Tearfulness
- Lack of energy or motivation
- Feeling tired most of the time
- Changes in appetite
- Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
- Irritability
- Increase in conflicts with people in your life
Perhaps depression keeps coming and going in your life or it may be new to you. You might know what is contributing to your depression or that may be something we discover together. In any case, you will not have to be alone any longer in trying to overcome how you are feeling and find relief.
How We Will Work Through It:
Our work together will begin with mindful attention to the thoughts, feelings, and sensations in your body that are associated with your experience of depression. You will learn the tools to tune in at this level of awareness and you will also learn tools to “retrain your brain” for more positive associations and resilience. Sometimes, these alone are enough to help alleviate symptoms.
However, depending on what works best for you, next steps might involve identifying and shifting negative beliefs or thought patterns, creating opportunities for increased confidence and self-esteem, improving communication and relationship skills, or even unearthing a whole new passion that lights your fire.
